"Exit" video

You know he got the cure
But then he went astray
He used to stay awake
To drive the dreams he had away.
He wanted to believe
In the hands of love.

His head it felt heavy
As he came across the land
A dog started cryin'
Like a broken-hearted man
At the howling wind
At the howling wind.

He went deeper into black
Deeper into white.
He could see the stars shine
Like nails in the night.

He felt the healing
Healing, healing, healing hands of love
Like the stars shiny, shiny from above.

A hand in the pocket
Fingering the steel
The pistol weighed heavy
And his heart he could feel was beating
Beating, beating, beating,
Oh my love, oh my love
Oh my love, oh my love.

So hands that build
Can also pull down
The hands of love.

Composed by U2 / Bono

About "Exit"

From the original U2 Album "The Joshua Tree" (09 March 1987)

Robert John Bardo, a stalker who murdered American actress Rebecca Schaeffer in 1989, claimed this song compelled him to kill her. Schaeffer starred in the sitcom My Sister Sam. The lyrics convey the dark impulses of a desperate man.

At an LA concert on November 18, 1987, Bono said, "This is a song about a religious man who became a very dangerous man when he couldn't work out the mystery, on the hands of love." (thanks, Union - Ellensburg, WA)

Bono slipped on the stage and dislocated his shoulder while performing this at RFK Stadium in Washington on Sep. 20,1987. [From Songfacts.com]
